BROWARD COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS JOE SCOTT
Supervisor Joe Scott is the elected leader responsible for overseeing all Federal, State, County, and municipal elections held in Broward County, Florida. Supervisor Scott’s professional career began as an Army Officer after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point. After serving in South Korea, he was promoted to Captain and served as an embedded advisor with the Iraqi Army. During his service in Iraq, he earned a Combat Action Badge and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Following his military service, Supervisor Scott earned an MBA from Villanova University and spent more than a decade in the private sector. Since assuming his current role on January 5, 2021, Supervisor Scott has worked diligently to enhance the capacity of the Supervisor of Elections office. He has focused on expanding in-person early voting by increasing the number of locations from 22 to 29, which also increased the number of drop boxes available during early voting, despite changes in Florida law that made it more challenging for County Supervisors of Elections (SOEs) to provide drop boxes. Additionally, Supervisor Scott established six permanent branch office locations to allow voters to register and submit their vote-by-mail ballots in person when early voting is not underway.
He has significantly improved the voter education and communications infrastructure of the SOE office by implementing initiatives such as creating a transparency corridor, which enables the public to observe the ballot processing without interfering with the process. Under Supervisor Scott’s leadership, the office received the Democracy Award for Best Practice of 2023 from the National Association of Election Officials. In 2024, he was honored by MIA Media Group as Public Official of the Year. Joe and his wife, Shannon, have been married for over 20 years and have raised a son together.
