Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) Candidates

Broward County, FL. (February 22, 2016) –The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office has received several inquiries regarding the candidate names on the ballot for the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP).

Please refer to the information below regarding the difference between candidates who withdraw, as opposed to candidates who suspend their candidacy.

  • Notice of Withdrawal: PPP candidates for nomination had until December 14, 2015, to submit an affidavit in writing to the Florida Division of Elections. This would have removed their name from the Florida 2016 PPP ballot (as prescribed by s. 103.101(3), Florida Statutes). No candidates submitted withdrawal papers; therefore, their name will remain on the ballot.

  • “Suspended Campaign”: A “suspended campaign” is not the same as having formally withdrawn. PPP candidates with a “suspended campaign” have the option to resume their campaign at a later date. It is not an official withdrawal from the race.

Please contact the Supervisor of Elections for further clarification.
